Still on Top

The debate over whether the Hayabusa is still the fastest bike has been tested recently by the new ZX14. Although, the ZX14 has a bigger engine, with 1400cc's, it still can't outrun the Hayabusa. The ZX14 has too much weight and is too bulky. The Hayabusa still proves it is still on top year after year.

Stunt Man Free Fall

Stunt Fails

Motorcycles are always fun to watch and see tricks done.

My personal favorite is a good burn out. The smell of rubber and smoke is enjoyable to me.

Unfortunately, bikes are man made and do malfunction at any time,  such as in the video when his burn out made his bike malfunction and catch fire.

Travel light

Imagine you are on 2 wheels and you have no space to put anything, besides a small compartment under the back seat that's only big enough for a wallet and a garage door opener. Other than that there is no space.

The best way to secure your items is to carry a book bag with you when riding wherever you go.

Also, you could get a tank bag which magnetically sticks to the gas tank and it has zip lock compartments on it for storage. Don't expect to travel with any heavy or large items while on a bike.

Lids

"Biker Boys"

My dad's helmet with his old nick name on it (blue and white to match his old bike)
There is a movie called "Biker Boys," it is an older movie, and I'm sure you can guess what it is about...

 Motorcycles!

In the movie they refer to helmets as lids. Their helmets are used as trophies and once you win a lid, you have that persons respect.

You can personalize your helmet to fit you. Not just for comfortable fitting but to represent who you are. Such as, painting your bike. There are many different things you can do to your helmet as far as painting,  designs, or Mohawk furs on top. You can design it anyway you see fit to describe your sense of style.

Byrd on 2 Wheels

Guest Post: Byrd on Two Wheels

My guest for my blog, is Mr. Ben Byrd. He is enthusiastic about motorcycles and his passion led him to race them as a hobby and he is here to tell his story and give his advice to anyone who would want to do the same thing.

Bennie Bryd's 2000 Hayabusa 1300 GSXR (that he races)
I'm Bennie Byrd and I've been drag racing motorcycles since 1990. I've been riding a motorcycle since the age 19. I have a big passion for bikes and working on them. I have two bikes that I race, 2000 Hayabusa and 2008 Hayabusa. Now for anyone that's interested in getting into the sport motocross or drag racing, here's a couple of points.

1) Racing hinges off of the amount of money you want to spend. The faster you go the more it cost.

2) You will need safety gear:
  •  leather suit, boots,
  • helmet, gloves.

Those are the two main items for now.

But again the down side for someone starting out is getting everything you need to get started (monetary side of it).

Ice Cream Paint Job

Yamaha R6
One good thing about motorcycles is that you can accessorize the bikes fairly easy. You can get customized work done cheaper than you would a car. You can personalize your bike to make it fit you and represent who you are.

It's a Southern Thing

Liquor cycles

Moped

In my hometown of Spartanburg, SC, I see a lot of mopeds. Just because they have two wheels does not put them in the same category as motorcycles or dirt bikes.

In fact, we call them liquor cycles because people either lost their license because of DUI's so they ride mopeds, or they are only used for liquor store runs.

They are actually a pain to see on the road, and good luck if you ever get stuck behind one on a no passing road :).

Grip it

Tires

Tire
Tires may not seem as important as a motor or a transmission. However, tires are crucial when riding, especially while racing!

Tires are used for grip and the tires need traction is very important to the overall riding experience.

Gripping the road, the track, the dirt, or whatever terrain you may be on.

Tires are also important for turning and leaning.

When you lean you want to make sure your tires have enough grip to not let the bike slide from under you. Even when riding straight up, if the tire has no traction, you will be doing more spinning than it gripping and rolling.

A Trip on Two Wheels

Fun in the sun

The perfect day to a nice summer would be to ride off into the sunset. Some cruisers are built for comfort.  Almost as comfortable as a car. They are big and sturdy and meant to remain comfortable during a long ride. They can come equipped with radios, navigation systems, and baggers to make long trips possible on a motorcycle

Riding Dirty

"Brraaaap"

A well known 2 wheel hobby is motocross, also referred as dirt bike racing.

Dirt bike racing can be expensive in regards to bikes, gear, and travelling. People all over  the world travel to races and enjoy the entertainment of motocross.
Husqvarna 250 2 Stroke

Races are held in arenas. Some track racing arenas may be man made and other tracks are made naturally such as racing through the woods.

These races can sometimes take several hours to finish.  But they are a lot of fun and are exciting to watch with family and friends.

Down and Dirty

Honda Foreman 450
I know this a page is about riding and enjoying life on 2 wheels, but there may be individuals who choose to seek a thrill on four wheels instead of two. If you're not about speed, but want to slow down and get dirty, perhaps a nice utility four wheeler will satisfy your needs. People often take them through mud holes or off road through any terrain. This can be lots of fun and gives you a reason to be as dirty as possible!

Respect the Bike

There are people all over the world who share a bond of love and passion for bikes. Certain individuals may purchase motor bikes and not even ride them as often as when they first purchased them.

In fact, some may use their bike as extra shelving in the garage or use the bike as a dust magnetic. It is a shame to see a good bike go to waste.

If you choose to buy anything valuable, especially a motor bike, take the time to treat your bike well. Clean it, make sure it's well taken care of, and it'll always be ready to ride.

Off the Road

4 Wheelers

Honda ATV

Along with two wheels, 4 wheels can be just as dangerous.  No,not a car. I'm talking about four wheelers, ATV's, or quads as they may be called. These can be just as fast or faster than dirt bikes and some smaller sized motorcycles. You won't see them or dirt bikes out on the road though, as they are meant for off road adventures.

It's the Law

"No Chase Law"

In some states across the US, there is a law called the, "No Chase Law."

This law means that whenever a rider on a motorcycle decides to run, that the officer isn't allowed to chase him.

"No Chase Law"
This law is in effect because it isn't worth a motorcyclist running and risking his life and the lives of others. With this law, if the police don't chase them, they don't have to start driving fast and reckless trying to get away and possibly hurt themselves or someone else.

Top Speed

VROOM VROOM

The Suzuki Hayabusa holds the world record for being the fastest production bike. This is why if you ever attend a race event, you may see quite a few of these bikes.

Its 1300 cc engine makes its the second biggest engine on a street bike, behind the Kawasaki zx14.

However, the Hayabusa still has the fastest land speed. The link attached is a video of how powerful this bike is, even though the motorcycle in the video has some adjustments done to it.

On Your Mark Get Set GO!

The Joy of Riding

Suzuki Hayabusa 1300

Riding motorcycles isn't just a hobby for some. Some may go as far as racing them on circuit tracks or drag racing their bikes.

For instance, my uncle drag races his Suzuki Hayabusa 1300.

This isn't just a stock bike though. There has been a lot of after market parts put on to make it one of the fastest bikes on the track!

Thinking About Safety

Head Gear

Helmet

Although laws vary from state to state about whether a helmet has to be worn, a helmet should be worn for your own safety. It's not a guaranteed life saver, but it is a way to protect yourself while riding.

Respect the Power

Dangers of Riding

This summer I want to encourage all drivers to be safe, whether you are on two wheels or four. You can have a lot of fun on a motorcycle, however the dangers of them constantly linger in people's minds. These thoughts could possibly lead them to become  anti bikers.

The saying is so true "With great power, comes great responsibility."

This statement applies to motorcyclists as well. With so much power awaiting at the twist of a wrist, riders need to respect the bike and ride responsibly.

Motorcycle accidents are very serious. I send my condolences to the young man,Raymond Edmund Salterswho lost his life recently due to a motorcycle accident. This article stands out to me because this young man was my age and he lost his life at the hands of a motorcycle. For more information, click the link below about this tragic accident that this young man was involved in with a motorcycle. For those who ride be safe and always wear a helmet.

Caution!!!

On the Look Out

While summer is here, the warm weather makes bikers want to enjoy their bikes.
Drivers on the road need to pay attention and watch for motorcycles. In South Carolina, the saying is, "Look twice, and save a life!"

Suzuki GSXR 750 (being rebuilt after being in a wreck)

So often drivers pull out in front of bikers or change lanes quickly and claim they don't see bikers. So be careful!

Learning about Motor Bikes 101

Motor Biking Info

For those of you who don't know how to judge sizes of motorcycles or dirt bikes, I'm going to explain.

Dirt bikes have brand names, the cubic centimeters (cc) of the engine, and a stroke number.
RM 250 2 Stroke (taken apart)

For instance, in my welcome photo the bike was a ktm (brand), 350cc (cc of the engine),4 stroke. Stroke is the  amount of power cycles an engine needs to create movement, engine power cycles vary in size. However, dirt bikes come only in two different power cycles 2 stroke or 4 stroke.

Stroke Number (more detailed)
A two-stroke, engine is a type of engine which completes a power cycle with two strokes  which makes the piston create an up and down movement to get the only one crankshaft  started.

This is in contrast to a "four-stroke engine", which requires four strokes of the piston to  complete a power cycle.

Motorcycles are different. There's so many versions of motorcycles but for now I'll talk about street bikes. They will have a brand name and the engine size. Such as a Suzuki 600, 750, 1000, and 1300.
